Project Overview
FIFA World Cup 2026 Broadcast Concept is a self-initiated motion design project exploring how broadcast graphics can enhance key moments within live football coverage. Inspired by the visual identity of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the project reimagines a goal sequence through a combination of motion graphics, real-time score updates, transitions, and branding elements.
Objective
The aim of the project was to develop a short-form broadcast package that captured the excitement and pace of a major international football tournament. The concept focuses on a France goal sequence, exploring how scorebugs, match clocks, player identification, and branded transitions can work together to create a polished viewing experience.
Motion & Technical Approach
The sequence begins with live match footage before transitioning into a custom goal animation and score update. A bespoke scorebug was designed to reflect the visual language of modern sports broadcasting, while an animated timer system was developed using expressions within After Effects to maintain realistic match timing throughout the sequence. AI-assisted problem solving was used during development of the timer expression, helping explore technical approaches before refinement and integration into the final animation.
To create a stronger sense of progression and spectacle, a 3D football transition was integrated between scenes. A third-party football model was animated within Blender, with adjustments made to its movement, rotation, and timing before being composited into After Effects. Additional motion design techniques, including logo animation, glow effects, speed ramping, typography animation, and compositing were used to reinforce key moments and maintain viewer engagement.
The visual direction draws inspiration from the FIFA World Cup 2026 branding system, incorporating elements of the tournament's colour palette and graphic language to explore how a contemporary broadcast package could appear in a real-world environment.
Outcome & Learnings
This project provided an opportunity to combine motion graphics, expressions, compositing, broadcast design principles, AI-assisted technical problem solving, and 3D workflows within a single piece. It strengthened my understanding of timing, pacing, and visual storytelling while further developing my skills across After Effects and Blender.
Notes
This project is a conceptual broadcast graphics exercise created for educational and portfolio purposes. Match footage and supporting visual assets remain the property of their respective copyright holders and are used solely to demonstrate motion design, animation, compositing, and broadcast graphics techniques. All graphics, animation, transitions, editing, and creative execution were produced by me.
