Project Overview
This personal project was an exploration into motion design and compositing, created through a Skillshare course focused on recreating a Venom takeover animation inspired by Sony and Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 (2023).
The goal was to understand how layered motion, texture, and sound design could be used to build a short but impactful cinematic transition, moving from a corrupted Spider-Man logo into a game-style loading screen.

Motion & Visual Technique
The animation centres around Venom’s slime gradually overtaking the Spider-Man logo. To achieve this, I used motion design techniques such as repeater effects to duplicate and stagger the slime movement, creating an organic, creeping flow.
White highlights combined with Turbulent Displace were applied to the slime to give it a sense of depth and pseudo-3D volume, helping it feel more tactile rather than flat. Ambient lighting was used throughout the background and logo to maintain atmosphere and visual consistency.

Sound Design & Timing
Sound played an important role in reinforcing realism and immersion. I incorporated copyright-free music inspired by the Spider-Man universe, alongside slithering slime sound effects to bring the Venom animation closer to its in-game feel.
Additional sound effects, including a stylised glass shatter, were used during the transition into the title screen. Rather than aiming for realism, the sound was intentionally more cartoon-like, reflecting the comic book and video game source material. The timing of the shatter was designed to work with the music’s drop in frequency, creating a satisfying transition into the final screen.

Outcome & Learnings
This project allowed me to explore how motion, texture, and sound design work together to enhance storytelling in short-form animation. It strengthened my understanding of timing, layering effects, and building visual impact through controlled transitions rather than complex visuals alone.
